I LOVE L.A.
Wendell wasn’t shy about his love for his city. He landed in Los Angeles from the Philippines in 1984 and was met with the best sports teams representing his new home. He was instantly smitten. Wen was an OG L.A. Rams fan (think Erick Dickerson being coached by John Robinson). Chick Hearns’ voice introduced him to Showtime Lakers. And he loved the Dodgers.
That’s what was so awesome about Wendell. He could jump from talking about an obscure Nina Simone cover to listing baseball players’ stats from the 1980s. His mind was Einstein’s desk.
